Energy Efficiency Rebates Everything You Need to Know
With the cold season upon us and energy efficiency rebates at an all-time high it has never been a better time to switch to a heat pump. Heat pumps are known to be the best alternative to furnaces and air conditioners, since they move heat from a warmer space to a cooler space as opposed to generating heat or using fossil fuels, they can reduce electricity use by up to 50 percent. Before you decide to switch, here is everything you need to know to save up to $13,600 by applying for an energy efficiency rebate*.
Federal Government Program
With the Federal Government Program, you can save up to $5,000 for energy efficient upgrades including heat pumps. The rebates can be combined with the provincial program listed below. To qualify for the federal rebates, you must get an energuide audit done to your home before and after any upgrades. We recommend booking as soon as possible as there are a limited number of auditors. The government will pay up to $600 for these audits. Provincial Energy Efficient Rebates
Provincial energy efficiency rebates do not require an audit. Rebate amounts are dependent on what kind of heat source you currently have. Here are some examples:
Central Air Source Heat Pump Rebate – $1,200-$6,000. To receive the top $6,000 rebate, you would need to be converting your fossil fuel heating system (oil, propane, or natural gas) to a Tier 2 central heat pump in BC Hydro territory.
Maximum one (1) primary space heating system rebate per home;
Rebates cannot exceed the cost of the invoice and paid cost of the upgrade and may only be claimed once; and
Dual fuel systems and customers heated by wood are not eligible for the additional $3,000.
